Born on August 26, 1950.
Originally from Asahikawa, Hokkaido.
Currently resides in Sapporo, Hokkaido.

She made her debut in 1968 with *“The Island with the White Shark”* published in a special issue of Ribon
(Shueisha). She later became an exclusive artist for Nakayoshi(Kodansha). Her most renowned work, “Candy Candy,”* received the 1st Kodansha Manga Award (Shojo Category) in 1977.

She subsequently released numerous titles, including “Mayme ♥ Angel” (1979), *“Hazunde Ribbon-chan”(1981), “Georgie!”* (1982), “The Sword of Paros”* (1986), and “Mukamuka Paradise!”* (1993), among others. After contributing to children’s manga magazines, she expanded her activities into ladies’ comic magazines and women’s publications, broadening the scope of her work.

In 2011, she was invited as one of the main guests to Japan Expo 2011, Europe’s largest event dedicated to Japanese culture such as manga and anime, where she gave lectures and held autograph sessions. Recognized worldwide as one of the legends of the manga industry, she continued to create new works, launching the weekly serialized manga “Electra” in 2020. In 2022, she also exhibited her artwork at Art Fair Tokyo 2022, one of Japan’s largest international art fairs.

Even after celebrating the 55th anniversary of her debut, she remains an active and prolific manga artist.

She also supports the mission of the Hokkaido Community Chest’s “Red Feather Campaign” and began working as a “Red Feather Supporter,” contributing to social welfare through the power of manga. In addition, she serves as a judge for the manga contest *“Kita no Manga Taisho,”* co-hosted by Hokkaido and the City of Sapporo, and works as a lecturer at universities and vocational schools within the prefecture. She continues to engage in community-rooted cultural activities in Hokkaido to this day.

1968年に『りぼん』増刊号(集英社)に掲載された『白い鮫のいる島』でデビュー。その後『なかよし』(講談社)専属作家として活動。代表作「キャンディ・キャンディ」は1977年度の『第1回講談社漫画賞少女部門』を受賞。
1979年に『メイミー♥エンジェル』、1981年『はずんでリボンちゃん』、1982年『ジョージィ!』、1986年『パロスの剣』、1993年『ムカムカパラダイス!』等々を発表。幼年誌で執筆後は、レディースコミック誌や女性誌などで活動の幅を広げる。

2011年には漫画やアニメなどの日本文化を紹介する欧州最大のイベント「JapanExpo2011」にメインゲストの一人として招かれ、講演やサイン会をおこなった。世界が認める漫画界レジェンドの一人であると同時に、2020年には週刊連載で「エレクトラ」を発表。2022年には国内最大級の国際的なアートフェアである「アートフェアTOKYO2022」にも作品を出展している。
デビューから55年周年を迎えた今もなお精力的に画業を続ける現役の漫画家。

また、北海道共同募金会「赤い羽根共同募金」の活動主旨に賛同し『赤い羽根サポーター』としての活動を開始するなど漫画の力で福祉にも貢献しており、北海道と札幌市が共催する漫画コンテスト「北のまんが大賞」の審査員や、道内の大学・専門学校の講師を務めるなど、現在も北海道で地域に根付いた活動を行っている。
